Mr. Jeff Burgess, Superintendent Finalist
On Tuesday evening, February 23, 2021, following a three month search including two rounds of School Board interviews as well as day-long interviews with superintendent finalists conducted by school staff, students, parents and community members, the Mesabi East School Board voted unanimously to enter into contract negotiations with Mr. Jeff Burgess to serve as our next superintendent. Previous to his current role as superintendent of the Clearbrook Gonvick Public School District for three years, Mr. Burgess served as the K-12 Principal in Clearbrook-Gonvick for four years, K-12 Principal at Fisher Public Schools for two years and as a 6-12 Social Studies/Health Teacher, senior class advisor and football, baseball and basketball coach at Laport Public Schools for five years.
Mr. Burgess received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies from St. Cloud State University, his Health licensure from Bemidji State University, his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership as well as his Principal and Superintendent Licensures from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, where he is also expected to receive his Doctorate in Educational Leadership in May 2021.
The Mesabi East School Board wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the students, teachers, support staff, administrators/directors, parents, and community members who worked in partnership with us and took time this week to participate in the day-long interviews of each of the finalists and to all of the District stakeholders who responded to the stakeholder survey as well as those who participated in focus groups last December to help craft the Profile of the characteristics and skills desired in our superintendent.
